It is too bad I missed this concert at the Forum Palace recently. Leningrad reformed last year and has revived its raucous rhythms from the late 90s, which bespoke the turbulent nature of Russia during that time. They hooked up with the Tiger Lilies at one point, collaborating on an album in 2005, but it pretty much flew under the radar screen. Not everyone's cup of tea, but these guys and gal (Yuliya Kogan) sure can jam,

I was talking to my friend at Thelonious Record Shop and things got pretty wild at the Forum Palace. It was Standing Room Only and it got a little too close for comfort as fist fights broke out, forcing the band to take a break not once, not twice but three times. Of course, Shnur's lyrics inspire such boozing and brawling, as the Palace soon found itself out of vodka and its beer taps run dry, resorting to selling bottles of beer. Bad move as soon drunken fans were hurling beer bottles at each other. My friend said he had never seen something quite like this in Vilnius. The fights spilled out into the parking lot after security finally shut down the concert.
